Menopause is a portal, a spiritual doorway, an opp Menopause is a portal, a spiritual doorway, an opportunity to face mortality and to make peace with Changing Woman. Menstruation teaches us about cycles, , but it’s Menopause that calls us down to the ground, to face the truths, to grow us up as women leaders of families, communities, businesses, governance. It’s a sacred time for reflections, to take stock, to learn and to reclaim. Today menopause is being sold to women as another source of fear. “We’ll be dry in all the wrong places, we’ll lose libido, attractiveness, we’ll become invisible, our bodies will defy and deny us.” Just another propaganda scheme to keep women at war with their most sacred, unique, and essential self- her body. Modern medicine has been convincing women for decades that their natural biological functions (menstruation, fertility, pregnancy, childbirth, ageing, and menopause) are inconvenient problems to fear and fix and manage- rather than nature’s intentional portals for women’s growth, inherent wisdom and self knowledge. By the time a woman reaches Menopause it’s clear- Enough! This is not a rehearsal! Enter your life fully, no one is going to do it for you- no prince Charming, no Fairy Godmother, no archangel, no doctor. Have we learned about letting go through the phases of the menstrual cycle? Have we learned to find the beauty, the rhythm, the hidden treasures that are alive in every part of the cycle, every part of the Life/Birth/Death cycle? What is our fear of aging? Menopause will shake you, humble you, and peel away all that may have held you back within yourself… She will remind you that you don’t need rescuing- Lean in, listen closely. Once upon a time women knew the local plants that Once upon a time women knew the local plants that could heal our daily ailments- headaches, gut issues, cold and flu, menstrual , menopausal and pregnancy support- the healing ways in our gardens as familiar as old friends. The use of herbal medicines allows women to reclaim their wisdom connected to earth, to listen to and build relationship with the plants around us, and to take responsibility for our health, to have our intuition intact and have choice when it comes to our bodies’ wellness. We are all Guardians of the waters of the Earth. W We are all Guardians of the waters of the Earth. Water is life. Water and women are the lifeblood of humanity. We are made of water. We gestate in water. Water smooths, soothes, transforms, connects, and carries songs, memories and knowledge…. The amniotic fluid we each bathed in for nine months holds generational stories of humanity and the ineffable knowledge needed to pass on to new life. Water magnifies our intentions. Sing to the water. Give thanks to the waters. Take care of the waters and wetlands in your place. Give your prayers and your fears and your tears to the water and let her take them. Perhaps, if women are like the moon- reflecting light, cycling in time with lunar rhythms, illuminating, powerful, everchanging …. then women also can affect the tides of change through our attunement to cycles, water and the sacred rhythmic pulse of our hearts.
